Fashion runs through all of it, but La Mue is not a fashion project. It is a personal project that thinks through fashion. Sometimes fashion is what I'm writing about. Sometimes it's just the door I walk through to get somewhere else entirely.
I use fashion to explore what I desire, what I carry, what I leave behind, what my body remembers, and what I am becoming.
I also write about fashion itself: where it comes from, what it pretends to be, and what it gives away about us when we look closely. I write about it the way I live it, with love, with irritation, and rarely with the same opinion twice.
Sometimes I start with a dress and end up questioning my entire personality. That's usually when things get interesting.
Each chapter becomes part of an archive of what I was thinking, wearing, questioning, and becoming at that particular moment.
THE NAME
In French, la mue is the moment a snake sheds a skin that has become too small for the body growing underneath it.
The old skin has served its purpose. The body has changed, and a new skin has become necessary. There is something brutal about that process, and something strangely beautiful. The snake doesn't decide to shed. It simply grows until the old skin can no longer contain it.
That image stayed with me because I recognized myself in it.
This period of my life was a mue of its own. The transformation came with loss, exhaustion, questions, loneliness, and a few versions of myself that had clearly reached their expiration date.
There was a long stretch when I forgot who I was. Not dramatically. Quietly. The way you lose yourself when you've spent years finding the right words for everyone else.
In that silence, I felt the need to come back to my own creativity, the one I had spent years lending to everyone else.
I had to make room. I had to let certain things fall away while keeping everything they had taught me.
La Mue became a way of making that process visible.
